Welcome to Our Website

For over three years now, since I assumed the directorship of Transactors Improv Co., I have fretted about a website. Wendy's has a website. Gatorade has a website. Transactors didn't have a website. What's wrong here? Admittedly, we have no nutritional information to pass on to the potential consumer, but hey, we're more than just a beverage.

Transactors Improv is one of the country's most successful improvisational theater companies. We've been around since 1983 and have developed a national reputation for high artistic standards and for being funny. In addition, to our knowledge, we're the country's only not-for-profit improv company receiving government support (in our case from the North Carolina Arts Council).

We are dedicated to performing at the top of our intelligence and ability, to advancing the genre of improv, and to teaching it in a wide variety of venues to a wide variety of people. We achieve these goals not only through our touring, mainstage performances and course offerings, but through our Work Group rehearsal process and our Transactors Experimental Theater (TET) series, in which we try out new ideas, forms and personnel.

We believe improv is much more than just being clever and trying to get laughs. Rather, our primary goals are to be good, honest, emotional and creative. The comedy arises magically from those foci, and in the process becomes more meaningful and interesting.

But we're not above a good ass joke from time to time.

Periodically, I'll be mouthing off in this section of our website (I just can't get used to the sound of it; it's like "our Dodge K-Car" or "our Yanni tickets!"), talking about what's going on with Transactors or in improv in general. Please feel free to respond to this or any other section of our website (!!!).

And above all, come see us (our schedule's just a click away). If you've seen us once, you've never seen us before!

So finally, here it is, our own site. Now that the 90's are almost over, we've finally entered them. We hope you enjoy this site and find it delicious and nutritious ... er, I mean, entertaining and enlightening. And at least I can now see those www addresses on TV and other ads without feeling a twinge of guilt.
